deck the walls

Remember the deck we started almost exactly a year ago? This is its current state:

Nearly ready for the deck board, a bit more render and some lighting. Come on, summer!

teriyakakaka

Finally hit upon a very nice teriyaki sauce that I like. It went something like this:

1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup mirin
3 or 4 heaped teaspoons palm sugar
Couple good shakes of Shichimi Togarashi 7 Spices.

Cook over a low heat for some minutes.

respeck

Good god, these bleeding heart liberals are giving us bleeding heart liberals a bad name. From the BBC:

Kathy Evans, policy director at the Children’s Society, says attempts to enforce expectations about behaviour are part of the problem, not the solution.

“Respect is something that is earned. It is usually mutual and is a personal attribute, rather than something that can be legislated,” she says….

“They feel like they are being told they should not act in certain ways, not do certain things, not go to certain places - that is hardly treating people with mutual respect.”

Erm, it’s called parenting, you silly woman. Of course children need to be told not to intimidate, abuse and threaten people. Of course they need to be told not to throw litter, not to vandalise, not to go behind the counter at a shop or enter a person’s house without their permission and take their possessions. And if they are told and they do it anyways? Where’s the respect there?

Respect my arse. She said it herself - you earn respect. And you earn it by being taught the right and wrong ways to behave and then by behaving that way, ffs.
