fossils and photos

Popping down to the south coast - Dorset - for a few days. We’ve been before - to Lulworth where they have these cool foldy limestone rock formations.

This time we’re heading a bit farther west to Weymouth and the Jurassic Coast. I’m taking the digi Nikon, the medium format camera and a slew of black and white film, so I hope to come back loaded with piccies and bits of stone.

my new favourite museum

lemon tree

The V&A in London is a fantastic art and design museum and my new favourite. They’re open ‘til 10 on Wednesdays, so it’s nice and easy to get up late, take the train down to London and have a good wander around. After 6 the music starts and they serve Pimm’s and wine in the gardens. It’s ever-so civilised. In 3 hours, we managed to only briefly skim 3 of the 40-odd galleries. The sixties fashion exhibit was brilliant, the new Jameel gallery stunning and the cast rooms really quite awesome. The photography gallery is quite small, but interesting. I can’t wait to go back.

My V&A snaps.

best quote ever

“The police are really good at understanding ‘someone stole my credit card and ran up a lot of money’. It’s a lot harder to get them to buy into ‘someone stole my magic sword,’”

buon ferragosto

Well, looks like the terrorists have managed to succeed without actually do anything. Massive cost implications to the airlines, holidays spolied, business deals interrupted…

On the other hand, it takes all the attention off of what’s going on in Lebanon. Smacks of poor planning, that does.

Glad I didn’t book a holiday yet.

slow going

As soon as the weather turned cold, my enthusiasm for working outside faded to nothing. I did, however, manage to order the wood and plasterboard for the partition walls. I suppose I could call out the electricians now, but that sounds a bit like spending money. Which, admittedly, I normally enjoy. But this is big money so it’s not quite so much fun.

summer?

Stupid English weather. Was so cold today I had to get the coffeemaker out and forgo my iced tea for coffee. The English, of course, drink hot tea day or night, hot weather or cold. I never really got on with hot tea. I drink it black with sugar, rather than milky like everyone else. Milky is a bit sickly, I find and black too bitter.

Slow news day.
