link-o-rama

A chance Facebook friend request reminded me that I haven’t posted to this blog in aaaages. So, I’m going to take the opportunity to link to some projects I’ve been working on, as well as projects being worked on by others I admire.

Cul-de-suck is the website for Scott’s latest novel, sWitch. I’m doing the site design work, as well as acting as a sort of publicist for the novel. Interesting, enlightening and sometimes frustrating! There are also two Twitter feeds - one for the book and one for the books main character, Barbara Ducharme. There’s also a fan page and a blog.

Chancellors of Vice is a new site design for my favourite local band. Temporarily it’s being hosted on my own website.

Creebies is my Nokia Series 60 game that has finally emerged on the Ovi Store. It has a website (in development) and a fan page.
Table42 with Chef Darryl Harmon is Scott’s reality TV show currently in pre-production. It too, has a fan page and a Twitter feed.

Teapott Fables is a collaboration between Scotty and Teddy, an extremely talented animator in Germany. It has a fan page!

Surrounded by Idiots is Scott’s band. Again, talent a-hoy. That Scott’s a busy boy!

Optricks is a new venture from my friends at Gameware Development, focussing on Augmented Reality software. I’m working with them doing some marketing and suchlike. (I’m a busy girl.) Optricks has a fan page and a Twitter feed.

And finally (although there actually is more), my rabbit Regis has a Facebook fan page. He’s lovely, if a bit grumpy. Won’t you be his fan? He doesn’t Twitter though.

i want never gets

Here’s what I want: A nice, quality phone, small and curvy like my Sony Ericsson T610i, but with a 3mp phone, that can run Symbian apps and can act as a slave to connect to the internet so I can upload images from my digital camera memory to a website.

Is that too much to ask?

Oh.

as the saying goes…

“Ignorance of the law is no excuse.”

‘Unfair’

Microsoft claims that it should not be fined at all because it did not know its behaviour would breach EU law.

rivalry my arse

So Google is the big cheese but MSN and Yahoo are providing “growing competition”. Bollocks.

I don’t believe it’s at all about the technology either. Yahoo and MSN have page and image overload as their over-riding graphic philosophy and until they stop that, they’ll never be a patch on “boring” old Google. The rivals need to take a leaf out of Google’s branding book. Less is more.

So says I.

no one tells me anything

Ever hear of Google calculator? I hadn’t until I tried looking for conversion tables. Just type in, for example, 356 * 3.456 or 150 grams in pounds and see what you get.

Amazing.

bayesian spamming

As I’ve mentioned, I get a bit of spam, but nothing too much to deal with. What I find weird, however, is the vast amounts of completely pointless spam I get. Loads of them use techniques to get around Bayesian filters which means that they consist of paragraphs of random words.

What I find odd about this is that these emails is that they don’t appear to actually sell anything. There are no working links, no sales pitches, no companies mentioned. Is it, perhaps, because I have html turned off that I’m missing whatever it is they are trying to sell? I do get html emails from other companies periodically (Amazon and Paypal, for example) and I always see the HTML code in the email, so I’m not sure how I’m missing it in the spam.

Or are they simply enjoying being irritating? It’s a mystery, but luckily they don’t actually annoy me - I simply delete them.
