lawyers comeupance

No offense to lawyers, but as the world’s most hated profession, you can’t help but laugh when the tables are turned on them. A little gem from the BBC’s latest quiz really made me laugh. Admitedly, this gives away one of the answers, but hey - I figure it’s worth it…

Apparently French lawyer Andre-Francois Raffray made a deal with the then 90-year-old Jeanne Calment in 1965 to pay her 2,500 francs a month until she died if she would leave him her apartment.  Sadly for Monsieur Raffray, Mme Calment lived to the extremely ripe old age of 122, thus becoming the world’s oldest woman. What’s worse, the ill-fated lawyer paid twice the market value of the apartment and died a year before she did.
